Have You Been a Victim of Fraud?
March 17, 2006
Dear Sierra Point Credit Union Members,
We have been alerted by CO-OP Network, who handles our ATM and Debit Card (Visa Check Card) processing, of another email fraud (phishing) scam. Again, members are being warned of a possible security breach in their account and are urged to login with their user id and password immediately. Below is a representative example of the email:

Note that when the highlighted URL is clicked, the unsuspecting reader will be taken to a page that looks like a CO-OP site, but it is NOT. A close look at the actual URL (only visible by looking at the source code of the email OR in the address bar of a browser), will show an address like: https://215.33.64.09/public/update_profile/index.htm (example only).
CO-OP and SPCU continue to urge you to use great care and attention at all times as it pertains to your accounts. We would also like to reiterate that neither Sierra Point Credit Union nor CO-OP will never ever ask you for this information and you should report any such emails you receive of this nature immediately to Sierra Point Credit Union.

Dear Sierra Point Credit Union Members,
It has been brought to our attention that some of our members have received the following email, requesting them to login to their VISA Online account to check for possible fraudulent activity.

Unfortunately, the only fraudulent activity is the email itself. While the link appears to be valid, when clicked it takes the user to http://www.sapcu.org/login.htm which is NOT a site affiliated with Sierra Point Credit Union. We are currently taking the appropriate steps to bring this site down.
If you have received this email and inadvertently provided your user ID and password, please notify Sierra Point Credit Union immediately at (650) 588-6140 during normal business hours. After hours please call the number on the back of your VISA to alert them of possible fraudulent activity on your account.
Please use extreme caution when responding to ANY email that requests you provide your user ID and password. Specifically, neither Sierra Point Credit Union nor VISA Online will never ever ask you for this information and you should report any such emails you receive of this nature immediately to Sierra Point Credit Union.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
