Credit Union On-Line, Inc. signs Sierra Point Credit Union
To Data Processing Software Suite
WALTHAM,
MA. May 07, 2004 – Credit Union On-Line,
Inc. announced that Sierra Point Credit Union of South
San Francisco, California has chosen to join it’s
Waltham data center running on the OSI/FiTECH Manager
GOLD system, to handle all transactional and integration
strategies for the $40M credit union and its nearly 4,000
members.
Deborah
Trapani, CEO of Sierra Point ECU, said, “We
have been in-house with FITECH since 1984 first on
Manager and then on Manager GOLD, we love the platform
and we really are not converting, we are going from processing
it ourselves, to CUOL. Our technology goals became more
demanding and CUOL can provide what we require for less
than us doing it ourselves. Now, we can address the needs
of not only our growing membership, but our staff and
management team, as well. CUOL has a proven track record
in data processing since 1980, specifically in small
to mid-size credit unions. They are a credit union service
organization (CUSO) owned by credit unions and they provide
core processing to them as well. We love the Manager
GOLD platform and CUOL is committed to ensuring it will
continue to be around for a long-time to come. We evaluated
continuing to be in-house and analyzed nine core systems,
and chose CUOL. We felt there is more to the decision
making process than just the platform, and the cost,
it is the people providing the service. We are in a service
industry and so is CUOL. They are committed to bring
the best of both of these to our credit union. Add to
that the great functionality and high level of platform
integration and, in our opinion, CUOL and Manager GOLD
is clearly the best solution for Sierra Point.”
“Sierra
Point Credit Union is a growing and progressive Credit
Union,” said
Connie Boretti, President, and CEO of CUOL. “We are pleased to have
them join our “family” of credit unions. The credit union can
now focus on growing their member base, and bring on more automated programs
such as Member and signature verification, and having CUOL as its core data
processing system will help them achieve their credit union goals. We are
very proud that Sierra Point chose CUOL over many of the larger, national
core providers. CUOL too has its ‘niche’, which is offering the
very best personalized service, very economically. We feel their choice is
evidence of our commitment to product and service excellence within the credit
union marketplace.”

Community
Information
South
San Francisco is our home and as such, we must participate
in all facets of our community. SPCU's mission and vision
statements include community involvement and that is the
basis of the credit union philosophy, "People Helping
People".
Recently
the Board lowered the par value of shares from $100 to $25.
To be a member of SPCU, everyone is required to deposit
and maintain "one share" ($25) to be eligible
to vote at credit union elections and access all products
and services offered by SPCU. Since the inclusion of the
South San Francisco Community to our field of membership,
many people from our community have joined, however, they
were unable to maintain the higher balance required and
closed their accounts, giving up their ability to access
low cost financial services. By reducing the minimum dollar
requirement, we help those most in need of very low cost
savings and checking accounts. The reduction will help us
help those who need financial counseling to budget for a
regular savings plan even if the dollar amount is only $5
per week. Eventually, those in most need of a savings plan
will build one to meet their future financial needs. Furthermore,
our no cost checking allows potential members access to
the check system required building a financial history.
Our
next project will focus on allowing access to small loans
in lieu of our community families paying high fees at check
cashing companies. While we understand why people use check
cashing and payday lenders, we also recognize the need for
an alternative to the high cost of these lenders.
Of course
other community projects that have become a staple at Sierra
Point Credit Union will not be ignored. We continue to participate
in the Partner in Education Program, the Adopt-a-Family
Program, the South San Francisco Day in the Park, the AIDS
Walk, Heart Walk, and recently, the Trauma Teddy Program
sponsored by credit unions on the Peninsula.

SPCU
Receives Award for Outstanding Community Involvement
The
South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the City of
South San Francisco awarded SPCU for community involvement
at the Annual Outstanding Business Awards Dinner in January
2000. State Senator, Jaci Speier, presented our CEO, Deborah
Trapani, with two plaques and commented on the various events
in which we participated in 1999. Those events included:
the Adopt-a-Family Program, Partners in Education, AidsWalk,
Community Impact, the Peninsula Family Alternatives Mentoring
Program, HeartWalk, Day in the Park, Taste of South San
Francisco, the Christmas Food Basket Program, the SSF Kiwanis
and Chamber Board.
